Nule
Introduction
Nule is a "comune" in Sardinia which was home to some of our Ruffini ancestors. The central figure in the family in this period was our ancestor, Luigi Ruffinu, muratore. We discovered our connection to Nule through the Italian civil records for the town of Ozieri, where we found some Ruffini who had come from Nule. You can read a little more about Nule in Nule's wikipedia article. Charlotte Ann Quinlan and Giovanni Roberto Ruffini visited Nule in March, 2007, and found remains of Ruffini relatives in the Nule cemetery. Giulio Laurenzo Ruffini and Giovanni Roberto Ruffini visited Nule in March, 2011 and did research in the parish archives, thanks to the parish priest, Don Cossu. Notes on this research are included below.
The Nule Baptism Records
Nule's church archives are currently missing baptism records for the period from 1775 to 1805. We consulted those from 1770 to 1774, and those from 1806 to 1821. A number of Ruffini, including our ancestor, Giovanni Ruffini, should appear in Nule baptism records from 1822 on.
The Nule Marriage Records
We consulted the Nule marriage records for 1787 to 1790, from 1815 to 1821, and from 1830 to 1831. We found records of our ancestors in 1790, 1815, and 1831.
The Nule "Matricola" Records
"Matricola" records are household censuses of an entire parish, with everyone listed under the head of their household. Nule's church archives are currently missing matricola records for 1800 to 1835. We consulted those from 1787 to 1799, as well as 1835, 1838, 1842, and 1848-1853.

Living Relatives
There are no longer any Ruffini in Nule, but we know that there are Ruffini descendants still there today. In March, 2011 we met a woman named Pasqualina who runs a Nule bed and breakfast, and is the granddaughter of Rosalia Ruffino Sanciu. Rosalia and Maria Antonia Ruffino were both recognized in local newspapers in the 1980s in honor of living well into their 100s.
