Girolamo Ruffinu married [[Maria Masala]] in [[Nule]] in 1790. Girolamo appears in the Nule "matricola" records for the first time in this same year, described in those records as a "maestre" or expert in some sort of skill. These two attestations are currently the earliest pieces of documentary evidence we have for any Ruffini ancestor. The record of this marriage tells us that Girolamo's parents were [[Domenico Ruffino]] and Maria Siana (?).

Girolamo Ruffinu, son of Domenico Ruffino, appears in the atti notarili of Ozieri ville in the year 1779 (entry C 107), stored in the state archives in Sassari. In that text, he buys two houses in Benetutti. He and the seller are described as "domiciliados en Benetuty" (living in Benetutti) and he is described as an "arbannil" (albanil: mason, builder, bricklayer).

He married Maria Masala in Nule in 1790. In that marriage document he is described as a widower, but we do not yet know anything about his previous marriage. It is possible that it took place in Benetutti. Nule's record of his second marriage appears on two consecutive pages shown here on the right. Girolamo appears in the Nule "matricola" records for the first time in this same year, described in those records as a "maestre" or expert in some sort of skill. (We may presume that masonry or construction is meant, given his earlier description as an arbannil.) This record is also shown here, in the gallery below.

The record of this marriage tells us that Girolamo's parents were Domenico Ruffino and Maria Piana. Maria is described as being from Sassari, and Girolamo is described as residing in Benetutti ("in oppido Benettuti commorante"), a village just down the hill from Nule.

Girolamo's children from this marriage include Luigi Ruffinu, muratore and Giuseppe Ruffinu. One of their children, named Antonius Sisinius Franciscus Ruffinus, died as a baby in 1791 (see the death notice at right).

This gallery shows the records of Girolamo's family in the Nule village matricola records from 1790 to 1799. (No records were made for 1794.) Nule's matricola records from 1800 to 1834 do not appear to survive. When the records resume in 1835, Luigi is the head of the Ruffinu family in Nule. From the notice in the final image at right, we learn that on October 20, 1804, the parish priest at Nule recorded the discovery of Girolamo's desiccated corpse and noted that Girolamo had been missing for three years. "Various breviaries of our religion" were found on his body. He was found in the region called "Sa Conca de Sae Curi Tundu," a place which perhaps still survives in Nule with the toponym Culitundu.
