Unknown Male (Charles?) George
The only evidence we have for the father of Goodwin George is a letter from Charlotte George's grandmother to Charlotte's mother Izetta. (See right.) Charlotte's later note on this letter to her own daughter Leona Jane Neer describes its author as "Grandma George." Thus the letter's author, who calls herself "Ma Ma George", is presumably Goodwin's mother. Thus, the man she calls "Pa Pa" and "Charlie" is likely to be Goodwin's father. However, this is not expressly stated, and has to remain for now uncertain.
Further evidence is circumstantial. The letter makes reference to a depot and to Charlie being in Chicago because he is changing his run. This may suggest a connection to work in the railroad. We also have in our possession (see right) a photo of a woman labeled "Aunt Millie". I believe the writing to be that of Charlotte George. Who was Millie? Consider the census entry of Lou L. George in the 1880 census: then 27 years old, he is a good age to be a brother of Goodwin; his son's name is Charles (perhaps after his father, Charles?); his occupation is "works on rail road"; and his wife's name is Millie. Is this Aunt Millie, and Lou thus a brother of Goodwin? This is only speculative: the birth place of Lou's mother is given as Illinois, which does not match what we think we know about Goodwin's mother. (It would, however, accurately describe where we think she was living in 1880.) The birth place of his father is given as Ireland.
