Introduction
Sassari is the second largest city in Sardinia, with a population in 2012 of over 130,000 people. It was the home of some of our distant Ruffini ancestors in the 1700s.

Research Notes by Giovanni Ruffini
Much of my search in the Sassari church records focused on the search for any Ruffini and for Maria Francesca Piana. The following records were searched:
Cresimi
S. Apollinare: Years are missing from an earlier volume. Only 1728 is available. That volume also contains cresimi from S. Sisto, for 1727. A later volume covers 1782 to 1825. We searched 1790 to 1820 for both Ruffini and Piana. Several Piana appear, but none the one we were looking for.
S. Donato: The volume contains the years 1715 to 1800, from which 1715 to 1756 were searched.
S. Nicola: The volume contains non-regular entries from 1715 to 1759, from which were searched 1715, 1727, 1740, 1742, 1746, and 1749.
S. Caterina: The volume contains non-regular entries from 1715 to 1777, from which were searched 1715, 1727, 1740, 1742, 1746, and 1749. The search finds a Maria Francesca Piana on March 30, 1740, at page 42.
Defunti
S. Sisto: The volume contains 1741 to 1799, from which 1790 to 1799 were searched for Piana. The same volume has confirmations from 1742 on, from which 1742 to 1749 were searched for Piana. The next volume contains 1800 to 1861, from which 1800 to 1815 were searched for Piana.
S. Donato: The volume contains 1747 to 1799, from which 1790 to 1794 were searched for Piana. The next volume contains 1799 to 1827, from which 1799 to 1810 were searched for Piana. Several Piana appear in both volumes, but none the one we were looking for.
