When Floyd Manning appears in the 1920 census, his age is given as 32 years old. This means that his birth was in approximately 1888. According to that census, his birthplace was Iowa, his father's birthplace Massachusetts and his mother's birthplace Iowa.

The 1895 Iowa census shows a 7 year old named Floyd living in the Second Ward of Dallas, Marshall County, Iowa.

I think this is the same man appearing in the 1900 census as the son of Friend and Sarah Manning, living in Spring Valley, Dallas, Iowa. Friend was a railroad conductor.

In the 1910 census, he lives in Courtland, Cochise County, Arizona, alone. His name is given as Floyd S. Manning. He is described as an engineer at a power plant the name of which I cannot read in the entry.

In 1915, he married Charlotte George in El Paso, Texas.

In 1917, a man named Floyd Shelton Manning registers for the World War I draft in Pearce, Cochise County, Arizona. His birthdate is August 12, 1887. His birthplace is Marshalltown, Iowa. His occupation is construction machinist. He is listed as unemployed with a wife and a child under the age of 12.

In 1920, he lived with Charlotte and her daughter Leona Jane Neer in Washington State. He was a master mechanic in a coal mine.
