Antonio was born on 19 Apr 1887, in Ozieri, son of Giommaria Mandras and Giovanna Lai. He died on 12 Jan 1963, in San Joaquin, California. His children were Giovanni (John) Mandras and Augusto (August) Mandras.

Giovanni Antonio Mandras appears in the Ozieri birth records at year 1887 entry 107 as the son of Gioimaria Mandras, bracciante, and Giovanna Lai, casalinga, with Giuseppe Meloni and Agostino Mu as witnesses.

Ellis Island records show him at 111 Olive Avenue, South San Francisco.

Luigi says that the Mandras cousin had an orchard in Farmington, and confirmed for me that his name was Tony. He used to go to the orchard to work in the summer. His father would send out a drum of olive oil. He remembers that everyone used to think that Tony was a bum, but that it didn't bother him at all.

Tony appears in the California Death Index.

He is apparently found in Contra Costa in the 1930 census entry. The year is somewhat off, but not badly, and the place is believable. His wife is Mary, born 1894, his sons John, born 1917, and Augusta, born 1922. An August P Mandras, born 5 July 1922, died in Stockton on 27 May 2001, with the SSN 549-24-9875. Louie confirms that he remembers "Giovanni and Augusto" and that their mother, Tony's wife, was a Genoese.

I have attempted to contact descendants of Tony. I wrote to a John Mandras on Wilmarth Road in Stockton in October 2003, and in January 2004 wrote to a John Mandras (the same?) on Courtney Way in Stockton.
