Second Generation (Parents)

2. Mikhail Arkadyevich Sorokin [827], son of Arkadiy Issacovich Rivkin [828] and Zinaida Yefimovna Sorokina [829], was born on 17 Dec 1946 in Kiev. Another name for Mikhail is Mikhail Arkadyevich Rivkin.

8. Itchak Shloymovich Rivkin [844], son of Shlyoma Rivkin [846] and Unknown [847], was born in 1885 in Krichev, Belaruss and died in 1957 in Kiev at age 72.

General Notes: In WWII, 1943, he changed his name to Issac Solomonovich because he lost his passport and was through Arkadiy’s connections able to change information on the new one. He evacuated from Krichev on 17 July 1941 with his wife to Taishet, where they stayed for a month. Then Arkadiy found them and took them to Lower Tagil, Ural, where they stayed until the end of the war. Issac worked for hire for his father.

Itchak married Chaya Woolfovna Assimova [845] [MRIN: 294].

9. Chaya Woolfovna Assimova [845], daughter of Reb Woolf Assimov [848] and Bluma [849], was born in 1892 in Klimovich, Belaruss and died on 30 Jan 1947 in Kiev at age 55.

General Notes: Her surname was Rivkina after marriage; she became Chaya Vladimirovna Rivkina in 1943.

18. Reb Woolf Assimov [848] was born circa 1852 in Klimovich, Belaruss and died circa 1927 at age 75.

General Notes: Reb is short for rabbi or respected person. He was rich, owned a store, bread, etc. Gave his gold to his son, Chaya’s brother, who buried it to keep it safe and when he was killed during WWII, all the gold was lost. This brother gave Chaya’s family 20 rubles to buy a house and kept everything else for himself.

19. Bluma [849] was born circa 1842 in Klimovich, Belaruss and died circa 1927 in Klimovich, Belaruss at age 85.

General Notes: Her birth date was "about 10 years before Reb Woolf." She was very nice and said to Arkadiy and his siblings, "Children, someday there will be so many doctors that they will knock on windows and ask, ’Are there any sick people in here?’"

20. Abram Sorokin [838] died from circa 1928 to 1928 in Lubni, Ukraine.

General Notes: Lived in Lubni, Ukraine.

22. Moisei (Moisha) Aronovich Smushkevich [839], son of Aron Smushkevich [843] and Unknown, was born in 1873 in Brusi Poltavsk (Poltavia), Ukraine and died from 1941 to 1942 in Kharkov Ghetto at age 68.

General Notes: Moisei was a merchant and owned a big bakery (bread factory) before the Russian Revolution. He was born in Brusi Poltavsk, and moved to Kharkov after his children moved there with their families. After the Russian Revolution, he worked as a cashier in a gastronom (a food store). He was murdered in the ghetto. The Jews were all told to gather at Kharkov’s tank factory to be moved to another location, and that those who did not show up would get in trouble. Everyone who came was shot and buried in mass graves in the Drobitsky Jar, including Moisha, his wife, and their daughter Golda.

Moisei married Haya (Chaya, Khaya) Abramovna Smushkevich [840] [MRIN: 291].

23. Haya (Chaya, Khaya) Abramovna Smushkevich [840], daughter of Abram [842] and Unknown, was born in 1872 in Poltava and died from 1941 to 1942 in Kharkov Ghetto at age 69.

General Notes: She was a homemaker, and was murdered in the ghetto.

Haya married Moisei (Moisha) Aronovich Smushkevich [839] [MRIN: 291].


Sixth Generation (3rd Great-Grandparents)

44. Aron Smushkevich [843] .

General Notes: Nelli Medvinsky’s compilation of genealogical notes say that Moisha’s ancestors were from Lithuania, and came from there to the Ukraine in the mid-19th century.
