Richard Rhine Quinlan first child of [[George Quinlan]] and Mary Hazel was born August 3, 1930 in Bakersfield, California in an area of many farms and the “Oil Center” of the valley. The family went back to Topeka where his parents were from and Richard attended Holy Names School from first to fifth grade. The family then went back to Bakersfield and Richard attended local schools and graduated from Garces Memorial High School. He joined the Air Force after graduation and served four years as a Military Policeman first in Texas and then in Alaska and then in Denver Colorado where he met his wife [[Juanita “Van” Iperen]]. They married on November 6, 1954. Van was also a member of the Air Force. They settled in Bakersfield and built their first home while Richard worked for the U.S. Post Office. The post office transferred him to Livermore where he worked as a postal clerk and everyone in town knew him as the guy with the gift of the gab…Oh these Irish!!! Richard had a smile and a joke for everyone and people in line waited especially for him. Richard and Van built two additional homes in Lake Tahoe but sadly one of them burnt to the ground in 2007. Richard and Van spent twenty-five years giving tender loving care to 133 foster children besides raising four children of their own. They are retired and enjoy traveling abroad and in the United States. Richard loves to do woodworking and has always kept his “Happy-Go-Lucky” attitude and wants to live to be 105!!!
