The ''Panama Canal Record'' volume 1 records that the Cartago left New Orleans for Colon on August 22, left Colon for New Orleans on September 1, left New Orleans for Colon on September 12, and Colon for New Orleans on September 22. The date in the passenger manifest is unclear, with one date written on top of another; one date seems to be September 23, the other September 22 or 27.

We do not know why he was traveling on the Cartago, but it is possible that he was visiting his son Paul, who was living in Honduras from 1908 to 1910.
 : Around the time of the birth of their grand-daughter [[Leona Jane Neer]], Oliver and Ida Neer were living in Douglas, Arizona.  Oliver visited the mines in Mexico every now and then.

Neer,the well knewn mining man and pioneer in that business in the state of Sonora, was in the city yesterday buying supplies for the Cerro Gordo mine in which he has been interested since 1908. He, with parties from Emporia, Kansas, have been at this property, which is some forty-five miles west of Cumpas, for three weeks and while there started work on the property which has been idle since 1910.  : Three pictures of a porch outside of a brick house are in our possession. Those pictures show Oliver Lee Neer, Lee Neer, Charlotte George, Leona Jane Neer and Izetta George. One caption says that it is in Tucson in 1914.
