Luigi was an adult when she died, but does not remember more specifically either. He says he may have been in his 30s. She was diabetic.

 One reason no one seems to remember when she died is that it may have happened very late: note in the California Death Index Antonia Lai, SSN 559-10-7046, born 4 June 1890 Italy, died 24 February 1972 in Alameda. I have requested the record to see if it is a match. The Nughedu rolls confirm this birth-date.
