James Davis was born in the District of Columbia.

General Notes

Thomas: Joseph T.’s death certificate gives the name "Thomas" rather than "James", perhaps simply because Joseph T.'s son was mistaken in his report.

Birth-place: Given as the District of Columbia in Joseph T.’s 1900 census entry.

Research Notes: His name and birth-state come from Joseph T. Davis’s death certificate.

James married Unknown Female Davis. This is presumably not the woman he marries in 1844.

The child from this marriage was:

Thomas Davis

Sarah A. Davis

Joseph T. Davis

In 1844, he marries a Euphemia (Ufuma) (Wilson) Furnish. Two members of the Furnish family, perhaps her earlier children, live with them in the 1850 census. In the 1850 federal census, James and his family are living in Howard, Missouri, and he is described as a 45-year-old blacksmith.
